this patient came to me with several teeth that had been fractured in an accident. he was unable to smile with confidence due to injury of the front teeth, and a very unaesthetic appearance. the treatment plan had several options and we decided upon a full arch reconstruction using a bridge, also known as a fixed partial denture. this has several benefits over removable partial dentures including improved speech, improved aesthetics and better function. luckily, this is a rare restoration, but when necessary, can have an amazing impact on the lives of our patients.
"dentist to the rock stars"
this sweet lady came to me with some issues in her upper left teeth. she had some mild pain, and porcelain fractures from her previous bridge. her x-rays showed she had severe decay under her existing bridge, and unfortunately, the teeth were not repairable. since the abutment teeth of the bridge could not be fixed, this left only two options for replacing the teeth.
first, we could do a removable partial. this is basically a denture that replaces a few teeth. the pros of this option are that it's non-invasive and has a lower cost than the other option. the second option, and the one the patient chose, is an implant bridge. working with our implant surgeon, dr. matt ficca a periodontist, we created a treatment plan for a four-unit bridge with three dental implant abutments.
below are the photos, including the photos from the lab case. as you can see, the outcome was highly aesthetic and improved the patient's function. implants are a highly desirable way to replace missing teeth as they have proven longevity and are not subject to dental decay.
keep in mind, this is a virtually painless procedure from the outset. let us know if norwood dental can help you recreate your smile. go to www.norwooddentalclinic.com to make an appointment.
An implant supported bridge is an option when replacing multiple missing teeth. In the case of this patient, teeth had to be extracted after cavities developed under an old fixed bridge.
Options discussed to replace her missing teeth included an implant supported bridge, another fixed bridge, and a removable partial denture. A distinct advantage of an implant supported bridge is that it does not rely on support from adjacent, natural teeth. Also, because dental implants replace tooth roots, bone is better preserved. In conjunction with a periodontist, this patient and I decided that an implant supported bridge would be her best option.
Our periodontist placed two dental implants, which resemble screws, into the patients jaw. Implant placement is a procedure done under local anesthesia with little to no post-operative discomfort. Over the course of several months, the implants were allowed to bond together with the patients’ bone, creating two secure anchors. We were then able to fabricate custom made abutments and the replacement teeth, which were cemented into place.
The patient was very pleased with the final outcome, as was I. The implant supported bridge looks and functions like natural teeth.
this patient came to me in tears about her smile. she had been unable to smile for years because she was self-conscious. her main concerns were that her teeth were too yellow and worn down. she was also concerned about the cost of treating these issues. after a thorough exam, we discussed some different options including porcelain veneers, crowns, and resin veneers. based on our discussions, we decided that resin veneers would be the best option. this treatment, also known as bonding, is an economical option that can be performed in less than an hour. it is important to note, that with this patient, due to the severe wear, this may not be a long-term solution to her problem. she was however, extremely pleased with the outcome.
today's smile file features 'rick' who had several issues with his smile. for a long time, he was uncomfortable smiling and it affected his self esteem. he came to me, during a consult we discussed his problems and several treatment options. we also discussed the risks and benefits of these treatment options.

because the patient's bite was relatively normal, and there were no other complications related to his periodontal health, we decided to use lava crowns to restore his six front teeth on the top arch. i have used lava crowns (porcelain fused to a zirconium substrate) for years and have found them to be beautiful and highly durable. this patient was ecstatic about the result, and his wife says she can't get him to quit smiling, not that she would want him to...
