This incredible lady came to me with several issues related to her smile. She was able to get back into the dental office after several years and she was ready to smile again. As you can see from the pre-operative photos, this was no small case. I was concerned about how this would turn out for several reasons. First, the teeth had shifted over the years resulting in challenges related to tooth size as it relates to the remaining space. Next, the patient actually bites on her palate. This is called a deep bite and can be a huge issue regarding getting a good bite. There are several other things that make this a difficult case including her ability to tolerate the treatment AND be happy with the outcome. This kind of case relies on long and detailed discussions geared at giving the patient options and summarizing the pros and cons of each option. Managing expectations of both myself and the patient is important. Immediately, I ran through possibilities such as crowns, implants, partial dentures, and complete or full dentures. I created models, took photos, xrays, measurements and went into my office for the treatment planning phase. I ultimately decided on removing the teeth that had cavities and were shifting and replacing them with a bridge. The case took several months to complete. She and I were very happy with the outcome and it's improvement in her smile and her bite.
